LEARNING OUTCOME 5&6

Learning Outcome 5 & 6:

Citing in MLA format was something that I was very used to, especially when using it in high school all the time. However, in this project and writing in particular was a way of citing that was still MLA yet was not citing articles of famous writers or websites, it was citing our own peers. Throughout the semester I would often to forget to use in-text citations and often was having a little bit of a difficulty to not make any errors or typos while making my work cited page. In class we discussed correct ways to cite articles or websites in the selected format yet, not until this project we have never discussed how to cite a peer’s work and it seemed like quite a curveball. We received information how to properly cite our peers and I followed those instructions and it turned to be just like the previous cites we have made in the past.

Errors we discussed in class were sentence errors that can be very common when a writer is attempting to cite. A specific example of one of these errors is adding the period within the parentheses and not outside of them. I have found myself doing this a lot in the beginning of the semester but through my development I was able to make sure that I avoid this in this writing, and in many other pieces that I may work on in the future.

I used Shannon’s writing in my project so for an example on how I cited her work was when I used her quote and then paraphrased it in my own words. After I did that it would follow with a (Oroak, 2020) or an even more simple (Shannon).  My ability to cite all types of work in MLA format has improved substantially throughout the semester along with the other writing skills and abilities that I have gained throughout this course. This work sample is an example of all my skills and elements (ingredients) coming together to create this as the final product. I believe that this work efficiently displays my efforts and knowledge to use every skill that we were taught in class and tie it together with others work, being able to build on other ideas. The techniques I used on this project and in this course are ones that I will be able to relay on all of the work that I may see in the future. I will continue grow and the more I use these techniques the sharper my tools will get.
